now they are focusing on the testimony of experts, clinical psychologist dr. mary dutton istified that her profile consistent with someone who suffered repeated abuse in the context of her marriage. earlier, dr. neil blumberg, a , testifiedychiatrist that in his opinion, carla porter was verbally and physically abused by her end and suffered from major depressive disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder. he said her psychological profile fit the criteria under maryland law of battered wife syndrome. headorter was shot in the in 2010. his wife is accused of hiring walter bishop junior and involving her family members and others in the murder. during testimony, carla said she thought killing him would be her only method of escape. dr. blumberg was asked if the

disorder caused people to lie. he said no. he was asked if he was aware that she lied when she initially claimed a black male killed her husband. he said, i am sure she lied plenty of times. -- to police.e she lied to me. that does not change my opinion. from a man whord performs evaluations for the state. he said she has anxiety and depression, but felt it was caused by stress associated with her legal situation. barry simms, wbal-tv, 11 news. >> they are beefing up security at johns hopkins campus in baltimore during the daytime. there will be an increased presence in response to a recent rash of crimes where hopkins staffers are being targeted in off-campus areas.

>> officials with johns hopkins medical center acknowledge that there have been a number of robberies and an assault in the past couple of weeks in off- campus areas. they tell us now they are going to do all they can to keep residents around here safe, and employees, by beefing up security and taking other measures. it, the no doubt about hopkins medical campus in ease baltimore is expanding by leaps and bounds. with some of that growth, there are renewed concerns about safety. >> i have heard about incidents happening, but i have not seen or heard anything arsenal he -- anything personally. >> three off-campus incidents have raised concern, including a cell phone theft, and a robbery and assault. >> i see the security and police around quite a bit. i have not had any problems. says despite the

>> police are trying to track down a gunman after a shooting in east baltimore. it happened around 9:30 p.m. last night in the 1400 lock of east preston street. a man was taken to the hospital after he was shot in the arm. he is expected to recover. >> police are investigating the theft of more than $20,000 of diesel fuel. david collins discovered this was no ordinary caper. company owner don werth and says these were no. the thieves did their homework. they brought their own tools and seemed to know exactly what to do. thieves reached a new level of sophistication in this heist of 5000 gallons of road ready diesel fuel. it happened on benson road last sunday. so far, they have gotten away with $20,000 worth of product. a believes this is part of

ring targeting other facilities. street in baltimore. harper county was in the paper. a company in tarrant county. miller paving up in carroll county. they were hit twice. this is not an isolated thing. >> he believes the thieves did their homework. the mid-atlantic carpenters training facility captured some of the caper on surveillance. >> we saw two individuals exit the track and proceed from there onto the east side of our building. >> the thieves cut the chain to a gate. they managed to turn one surveillance camera to the ground and placed a garbage bag on another. they began transferring 5000 gallons of these oh. -- of diesel. wind dislodged the bag. >> at which point we were able

>> maryland state police are trying to figure out how to get a 650 thousand pound transformer to pennsylvania. it is sitting on main street in west esther. they have delayed the trip week has it is significantly overweight. the transformer arrived from mexico by barge.

special concern for stronger thunderstorms with that additional heat. those are the areas we will be keeping an eye on for severe weather throughout the rest of the evening. storms have cleared out through the baltimore metro area. all of this is continuing to push east. more storms are on the backside. we are not in the clear just yet. we traced this all the way back to charles county where this cell did have a concern for severe weather. a warning was issued for indian head. expiring, like it is but i would still be mindful that the thunderstorm cell could produce stronger winds towards prince frederick. you do not want to be out and about in this. go inside if you live in that area or if you know someone in that area, give them a call and give them a heads up. with the sun breaking out, i was a little concerned that something could reignite.

at this point, it is still quiet. that may be a good sign. you can see there is till a thunderstorm out toward hagerstown. there is still some activity that has to drift into baltimore. basically, this entire area and the cold front is unsettled at this point. that is why we have to keep up the thread for thunderstorms through sunset. i think the chances are dwindling across baltimore. i 10 p.m., we are just mostly cloudy. most of the storms are down to the south. again, those storms could still be in southern maryland. the rest of the forecast for tonight, we will see temperatures fall back into the 70's. we will start the day off like that tomorrow with a lot of cloud cover. clearing skies into the afternoon with highs in mid- 80's. a lot less humid, a lot more

single night. destroying homes, businesses and turning some streets into raging rapids. and tonight, there have been more deaths. nbc's kerry sanders is in nashville for us again tonight. kerry, what's it look like there now? >> good evening, lester. with more rain looming, there's a race to get soaked carpet, drywall, furniture, just about anything inside houses out before mold begins to grow. this pile behind me is just from one house here in nashville. it's a scene repeated across 17 states. hit by wicked weather. >> we're in a car that's flooding! >> the torrential rain sweeping across the midwest claimed another victim this morning. a 60-year-old man in oklahoma city was swept away in a flash flood while trying to pull his wife and daughter to safety from their stalled car. police found his body a short time later, nearly six blocks away, bringing the death toll from these storms to three.

the heavy storms hit a half-dozen states with up to ten inches of rain. officials deployed rescue teams on boats in search of those stranded by the floods. dozens of roadways and highways in several states will remain closed until further notice. in nashville, clean-up today. at the parkwood villa apartments, more than 300 residents evacuated and may be out of their homes for weeks, if not months. >> i lost everything. >> the high water also swamped dozens of cars. claims adjustor, timothy lengyel says car insurance covers this damage. but he has a warning for those in the market for a used vehicle in the coming months. >> are some of these cars that have been flooded going to wind up on the market? >> mostly used cars in two or three months? >> mostly. >> as folks use a break in the weather to start cleaning up, more storms and heavy rain threaten already-hard-hit areas, tonight and through the weekend. >> we're stuck in this persistent pattern, bringing
